Academician Zhang Wei is an internationally renowned expert in the field of plant cell culture and engineering of marine bioproducts, the Founder and Chief Scientist of Ancelbio , an Academician of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE), and Founding Director of the Marine Bioproducts Development Center at Flinders University. He has pioneered the “novel technology of integrated metabolic regulation of biosynthesis and post-biosynthesis” and “bioreactor technology with low shear force”, initiating a new era of large - scale plant cell culture and economic production of small molecules and active components of TCM products.
He was ever awarded multiple international and domestic scientific awards, such as Excellent Award of Dean ’s Scholarship of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), MEXT Research Scholarship in High Technology (Japan), ARCFellowship (Australia), Wang Kuancheng Scientific Research Award (CAS), “Hundred Talents Program” of CAS, and Flinders Technologies Research Fellowship. He ever served at the University of Tokyo in Japan, the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, and Cornell University in the United States, and is currently an invited Adjunct Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Tianjin University, Nankai University and Xiamen University.
Extraction of raw materials in the areas of functional foods , cosmetics and biomaterials, Zhang Wei has been elected as an Academician of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering(ATSE).
Elected to one of the academicians of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE) in 2022.
Since 2017, he began to work as the Founding Director of “China-Australian Joint Laboratory for Industrial Technology Innovation of Specialized Biological Resources” .
In 2016, he was awarded the “Adelaide Convention and Exhibition Award” by the South Australian Government.
In 2014, he was selected as one of the first batch of “Taishan Scholars Blue Industry Leading Talents” in Shandong, China.
In 2011, he was awarded the “Leading Talent” of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region.
Since 2009, he began to work as the Founding Director of the “Marine Bioproducts Development Center” at Flinders University, Australia, as well as the President of the “Australian New Zealand Marine Biotechnology Society” . In 2008, he was awarded the “Outstanding Young Scientist Award” (under 40 years of age) in Australia and the “South Australia Prime Minister Science Research Fund” .
In 1995, Zhang Wei was promoted to associate researcher and doctoral supervisor. His research interests include biopharmaceutical engineering, plant cell biotechnology, Marine biological product engineering, and microalgae bioenergy and biorefinery.
